Camp Sumatanga is excited to invite campers to draw close to God’s heart this summer. However, we feel it is important to create a safe environment for camper’s hearts and bodies. We have assembled a team of pediatricians and internists to advise us and help us implement strategies to stop or slow the spread of COVID-19 in our summer camps. Luckily our schools and health care experts have mapped out best practices which we will adopt and adapt for summer camp. Our COVID-19 plans include:
Requiring mask wearing for all campers and staff on campus. Exceptions will be made during sleeping, swimming or eating.
Keeping kids in small groups or pods to limit exposure. For overnight campers, one side of the cabin will serve as a small group. This group will lodge, eat, and sit together in any public setting. For day campers, they will have a consistent small group throughout the week as well, doing our best to group church groups together to limit potential risk.
Should a camper become ill and test positive for COVID19, the camper and their small group will return home to quarantine. We will apply a portion of your week’s registration cost to next year’s summer camp registration fee, depending on how many days were spent at camp.
Assuming the COVID19 vaccine is widely available, we will be strongly recommending that every volunteer and staff member be vaccinated before coming to camp.
Modified drop off/pick up procedure that will limit the drop off/pick up to one adult, with a strong preference for allowing camp volunteers and staff to help settle kids in to their cabin. If the adult would like to help settle their camper into the cabin, we will provide a scheduled structure for those requests for Elementary students. Mask wearing will also be required of any adults that are present at drop off/pick up.
At drop off, campers will have their temperature taken and will be asked about COVID19 exposure.
We hope these efforts will allow us to praise God with healthy bodies for your camper’s week at Sumatanga. Thank you for being mindful of these plans as you register your child for an awesome week at camp!
In light of COVID-19 and our desire to keep our campers safe, if your child tests positive for COVID in the 2 weeks before camp and you can provide evidence of this positive test, we will be happy to refund your registration (less $50 registration fee) or apply it to a camp next year.
