Sumatanga offers Christian Hospitality to all for Spiritual Renewal, Recreation, and Fellowship

Environmental Education Center

The great outdoors can be one of the best classrooms available. The Sumatanga Environmental Education Center is designed to take advantage of the nature's classroom to help students develop an integral understanding of the environment and our role in it.

The academic program is based upon two concepts: experience and academic integration. The first and most obvious asset to such a learning environment is experience. The courses are directed towards having the students interact tangibly with the environment. For instance, instead of just reading about the type of aquatic life found in a healthy stream, the students can search for, find and study it. Geology, stream ecology, and botany are just a few of the many courses we offer which are especially adaptive to the resources found at Sumatanga.

The Sumatanga Environmental Education Program is nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Gallant, Alabama. We are fortunate to have a 1700+ acre facility equipped with opportunities ranging from stream studies, geology, and history to team building activities. This flexibility allows group sizes to vary from 12 to 200 people. The typical environmental education program will last either one or three days.

Price

The one-day program, arriving around 9:00 AM and leaving around 2:30 PM costs $25 per student. The three-day program, lasting from lunch on Day One to lunch on Day Three costs $85 per student.
